Abstract : X-ray and neutron diffraction diagrams of CrAs have been prepared in the temperature range from 4.2 to 1070°K.CrAs undergoes a crystallographic and magnetic first order phase transition accompanied by a large volume increase for the low temperature phase. The transition takes place in the temperature range from 240 to 190°K and shows hysteresis and supercooling effects. The magnetic spiral structure of CrAs (1) has been refined at 4.2°Kand 198°K.The first order phase transition is interpreted as an electronic transition between localized and collective states.
